Ahh, here you are. Welcome to the next stop on Amy O'Neill Houck's Crochet for Bears to Wear
blog tour. Won't you sit and have a cuppa joe?
If you've been following Amy on her tour, you may have already heard about the stylish offerings this book presents to the fashion conscious teddy. There are garments and accessories for all seasons, from beach wear and evening wear to back-to-school necessities and cozy sweaters. I love them all, but the thing that I love the most about this book is that each pattern is customizable! Throughout the book, Amy guides you on how to measure your pint-sized companion and adapt each pattern for dolls and teddies of varying sizes, including 18" dolls.
This is perfect for me because, while my daughter does have quite a few bears on her shelf, her BFF at home is an American Girl Doll named Lilly. So, I was thrilled to get a copy of Crochet for Bears to Wear
and its companion Knits for Bears to Wear.
Lilly agreed to be a model as long as she had say in which pattern I made for her. She liked the Bear-y Pickin' Dress but wanted it to be more of a hip length top. She also decided that the sleeves were a little too frilly and didn't suit her style. Since she's a very busy girl, I had to snap a quick photo of her in the top as she skated off to school.
Here's Lilly, aka Smackie O., not long after she joined a local roller derby team.
Not only am I looking forward to making more fun projects for Lilly, I think this book will be a great way for my daughter to get beyond crocheted chain bookmarks and bracelets.
Before you go on to the next stop on the tour, be sure to leave a comment so you can enter to win your own copy of this super cute book. Feel free to post whatever you want but I'd really love to hear about what you might have knit or crocheted for your dolls or teddies before.
ETA: The winner is Stephanie Hill! Stephanie, please email me at jholetz@gmail.com with your mailing address.
Cute!
ReplyDeleteSo far I've crocheted my teddy bear a sweater and some ear warmers (a lil cup for each ear, hehe)
How darling!!!
ReplyDeleteMy son is still 13 months old, but once he's a little older I'll make sure to dress up his little bears. So very cute!
aw! I hope Smackie O. gets lots of signatures on that cast!
ReplyDeleteI haven't crocheted anything for my bears yet (that is why I'd love to get this book!) but I have crocheted two teddy bears - one named Joseph (he is technicolored) and one named Baby Blue (for my frd's newborn baby boy)! :D
Very cute! I haven't made any teddy clothes yet but my DD8 would love some for her BaB bear named Samantha!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely adorable!!! I love the colors and the modifications you made. It's nice to see that the patterns in the book can be easily modified to suit your bear (or doll's) own individual style. Right now I am in the process of making the bear turtleneck and it's progressing well. It is going to be for an FAO Schwarz Dalmation puppy dog named Sophie. For some reason my girls prefer to dress up their puppy dogs rather than their bears. Cheers :-)
ReplyDeleteI have crocheted for my daughter's dolls and Fur Americans (otherwise known as stuffed animals) before, but nothing quite this cute. Obviously, I need this book.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cute! I love the contrasting blues you used.
ReplyDeleteIn the past, I've made amigurumi teddy bears, then crocheted custom little hoodies for them to give as birthday gifts.
Thanks for the giveaway~!
I have just learnt to crochet so havent made anything for toys yet - just a beanie for my niece.
ReplyDeleteI love that top you made for lilly - I wonder if it is adaptable for me???!!!
I haven't knit or crocheted for for a bear or doll yet. But look forward to it.

I have several bare bears who are in desperate need of some warm clothes! It gets so cold here sometimes I can hear their teeth chattering! LOL
ReplyDeleteI definitely want to make the beautiful sweater on the cover!
I love the dress you made- when I was first learning to crochet, I made little freeform dresses for my dolls.
ReplyDeleteadorable! thanks for specifying your mods too.
ReplyDeleteGreat projects - would love to crochet clothes for my grandsons' bears. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI have two granddaughters that are still playing with teddy's and dolls. It is hard/sometimes impossible to find cute things to crochet for them and how amazing that ONE book can do so much.
ReplyDeleteI haven't made anything for dolls, but my daughter has. Maybe if I had this book ... ;-) Thanks for the opportunity.

My daughter and her friends adore their American Girl Dolls and Build-a-Bears. For birthday gifts I crochet a dress pattern that I modified for the little friends and the girls are delighted. It would be lovely to have another resource to diversify the gifts I send! This book looks darling and every day I look forward to the blog tour.
ReplyDeleteLove this! I have 3 girls who love to dress up their teddies and AG dolls too! I am always making clothes for them to wear to parties and dances hehe.
ReplyDeleteI have crocheted sandals, headbands, dresses and more for dolls. My 8 year old son knits scarves for his teddies.
ReplyDeleteI haven't really done any for toys yet. I have a bear from Planet June that I plan on crocheting and then I want to dress it up. I actually first learned to crochet because I was making a doll and dresses set fro my daughter. All the edgings for the dresses were crocheted and she didn't want a knitted edge on the dresses, it had to be what was in the book.

I made a little poncho for my daughter's AG doll, and have been looking everywhere for more nice crochet patterns for dolls (and bears!). I would love a copy of this book!
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited about the idea of dressing up a stuffy to give as a gift. I don't know why I never thought to do this before! One way or the other a copy of this will be mine, mine, mine! Thanks for offering a chance to win one. =-)
